I actually thought it was funny. If you substitute 11 for 3 you'll understand what he was getting at. On a side note, only a true post whore would know when another page was added. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

This one had me laughing pretty hard too. I have to figure out how to shrink it down for my avatar.

Well...Boo Boo went out for a few hours so Daddy got back into that carb. Newbies need to know that A few weeks ago I was totally terrified, and just pulled the carb in about 3 minutes and had it apart in about another 5. Anyway, found out that those accel. pump valves have a ball stop in them. The one that was squirting at about 75%...that ball was hung up in the top of the valve. The one tat was not squirting at all? That one was stuck in the lower part of the valve. Just carb cleaner sprayed them both to death until I could hear the ball moving back and forth as I turned it. I may even get her running again...I have about an hour and a half before playing Daddy again. Bye.

No...even better. Just put the carb back in in about 15 minutes, fired her up and after one fart she was idling at 900 as smooth as silk. Both accel. jets were squirting perfectly. I let her warm up for 5-10 minutes, then held her at various RPM, let off quickly some times, slowly at others, and did the same thing with acceleration...sometimes abrupt, others times gradual. Throughout she was running smoothly, no back firing, no carb farts, nothing but a gorgeous sound and response. Tomorrow I'll balance everything and see how she does under load.

Between the electrical gremlins "we" fixed a few weeks ago, and rebuilding the carbs, I feel so "right" with this car and willing to take on anything she presents.

Never wuld have ben able to do it without this group's support and (mostly) patience. VERY appreciative.

Its a great feeling when something that intimidated the hell out of you becomes no big deal. I felt the same way when I rebuilt my 44s, and now I am actually really looking forward to rebuilding the 40s I am going to replace them with.

If I could wrap my brain around jetting theory, I'd be dangerous! Well, some might say I am dangerous around cars as is... :kickcan: (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Rebuilding 40S? I'm great at it! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) I'd have no problem doing this once a year as a part of regular maintenance...maybe 45 minutes each.

Ok...pretty sure the carbs are nicely balanced. She holds 900 RPM and each barrel is pulling a 5 on the sync tool. She runs nicely until I get to the end of the driveway, and then dies. Same in the garage...she'll run for awhile and then just die like somebody pulled the fuel line. I'm back to suspecting either the fuel pump or the tank (sock) itself.

You might want to invest in a cheap inline fuel pressure gauge. It makes troubleshooting alot easier. It could save you the cost of a pump. If your pressure drops and your pump doesn't speed up it means you have a plugged suction. If your pump speeds up yet can't reach pressure you need a new pump.

Yup, you are emptying the fuel bowl each time. How long does it take to refill the fuel bowl - can you hear the pump change speed as it fills up? Agree with jmill, you need to add a fuel pressure gauge - also are you sure the fuel line is not kinked somehere?
Oh, and you do have gas in the tank!

I forget if you have mentioned it earlier. What kind of fuel pump are you using? I agree that it sounds like you are draining the carb bowls and then your pump can't keep up.

Fuel pump capacity issues usually don't show up at idle. The fuel draw is relatively minor. To have it starve at idle seems more like a plugged suction.

With that said, your clicky pump looked to be in very bad shape.

Well...went out and ran it again, and it ran for about 10 minutes, at both idle and at various higher RPM. Then, it started to stumble and act as if somebody were standing on the fuel line. Then it crapped out. I was able to restart it, and then it ran beautifully for a good 20 minutes before I shut here down. It did take almost all of that time for the oil to warm up enough for the temp gauge to even move. My thinking is now that it was something crappy in the fuel, like water. I just bought a can of Valvoline water remover as well as some Sea Foam, recommended by the guy at Auto Zone. Ever heard of Sea Foam? Anyway, at this point I'm gonna proceed that way and add an inline fuel pressure gauge. Any recommendations as to what gauge and where to splice it in?
