I'm having a few Type IV Deck Height plates being made as I wanted one. These are being made from precision tool plate AL used for fixturing items in large CNC machines. They will be flat to within .001" and have slot(s) for a depth mic.

I should be able to offer these in one and two cylinder configurations for a very affordable price.

Let me know if you might be interested.

Roughly 7 of the first batch of 14 are sold and paid for. Just a heads up.

Just a heads up that I'm about sold through the first batch. If you want one grab it now. Not sure when or if I'll be doing a second run.

Do you still have any of the first production models available? Your last post is a couple of months old now.

Just in case anyone is wondering about this item, It is truly a wonderful addition to your engine building tool chest. It is the most accurate of any I have ever seen....plus it is just plain sexy. I bought 2 just to have one for each bank and I could not be happier. You won't be disappointed in any way with this fine, lab quality instrument. Thank you, Aaron for all the R & D that went into creating this fine Deck Height Plate Kit.

I am am about to use this tool today.
Perhaps a video of how you expect it to be used would be good.

I see the multiple holes for measuring and the small space that is machined into the plate.
What is that machined spot used for?

Also wouldn't it be better if the flat plate was made from steel instead of aluminum?
Then my magnetic dial indicator stand would stick down to it.

The "multiple spots" were put there because we could and thought it wise even though the 12 and 6 measurements really aren't used (at this time). Use the center one to get the deck height measurement.

The "slot" is designed to measure co-linearity between your cylinders. This helps to double check that your deck is true. Simply zero on one cylinder edge with a depth mic and then slide over and measure the other. Any difference in height needs to be addressed.

The parts were made somewhat to a price point without sacrificing accuracy. the AL is designed for fixturing and is flat to within .001" across the entire length when I buy it. That piece is *not* normal AL plate. The fixtures to torque the cylinders down could be made from steel, but would have added to the cost due to the additional time to machine it if not for the cost of the steel alone.

I typically make a little plate that bolts to the intake on the head that I can snap my magnetic dial indicator to...

I agree a video would be cool, but I'm barely covering costs at this point and consider this a contribution to the 914 cause and my motor is buttoned up. Maybe sometime after now...

I am attempting to use this tool today and I have constructive comments:

1 - Be sure to use large washers when tightening the longer bolts.
Mine were small enough to start pulling into the aluminum tube and actually split one and distorted another (wondering why the torque will not reach 22 ft-lbs....)

2 - It is very tricky to get our cheapo harbor freight style dial indicators to reach far enough into the aluminum rails without interference.

3 - You NEED to find a way to attach the dial indicator to the engine case very securely.

the video of how to use it would still be helpful even if from a customer.
I am trying but cannot get my dial indicator someplace stable that can reach into the holes.

It's designed to use the stock head nuts and washers. I think I show that further back in the post. If not I may have a picture.

I'm now sold out of the full kits. I have some of the plates left (which are the key piece) that I will sell individually until I'm out. With this option you will need to fashion your own cylinder hold down widget.

$50 shipped each.
