i just wanted to start a thread to see what you guys do day to day on your cars.

i'll start,

about a month ago, i pulled my engine and trans to put in a new clutch. had the flywheel lightened and resurfaced. but what i didnt know is that i had to shim the little ball that the clutch arm rides on, after a resurfacing. so guess what i did today?

yup, pulled the trans and put an extra washer under the ball. you have to goop up both washers to get it to seal because the threaded hole goes all the way thru to the inside of the trans. i also replaced the plastic cup that the ball rides in. the throwout bearing and its little plastic blocks were fine so i buttoned every thing back up. 5 hours total. i think this has been the cheapest repair yet on my car. $2.75 for the little plastic cup.

what did you do to your 914 today?

On track to have my 73 914 1.7 finished by June. This project started in 1983 with my purchase of a complete rust bucket. Found another 914 in 1989 that had been completely disassembled and dipped to kill rust. Made headway for a year and changed jobs and got married. Retired in 2022 and got tired of looking at the bare hulk in Nov. 2023. Steady progress since then. Can't wait to drive it this summer!

Did this over the weekend.

This 914 belongs to the wife of @scottthephotog , @K.T. She wanted a six, so we put in the old 2.4L MFI motor out of my six conversion. Still have a bunch of wiring and hookup work to do, but it's in there.

Hopefully they make it to Okteenerfest with both their cars.

Drove our old 914 about 100 miles up to Ft Monroe VA and back; what Terri called "returning to the scene" forty-three years later.

It's gone by in the twinkling of an eye, with more than a few losses along the way. Feeling very fortunate that we've made it this far.

We would do that, but we would end up in a parking lot at Fair Park in Dallas. And I don't have the 924 I was driving at the time.

I've been cleaning up the back end while my engine is being rebuilt. Replaced a bundle of fried wiring running from the harness to the back lights. Replaced fuel lines. Added Tangerine shift bushing to firewall. Powder coated and Zinc all parts. Undercoated with POR15. New shocks and springs from Elephant Racing. The brakes will go back next.

Got the engine/trans installed with a new clutch and some other associated bits. Did not get the heating system installed and drove her in to work this am, temperature 36

had to resort to cleaning the windscreen as in the old days aka bug with 0 heat

Great day messing around and driving a bit - swapped in a factory sealed MPS for the "opened" one I had been running. Then dialed in the timing a bit more with the bluetooth 123 and had some good results. Operating/head temps are down significantly. Probably could have gotten there by tuning the previous MPS but decided to see what the sealed one would do. I'll mess with tuning the other MPS at some point.

Changed the transmission oil to Swepco 201. First time I've done it in the 5 years I've had this car. I do like how it shifts better - a noticeable change - and no leaks!

Also pulled the bottom of the rockers away - but didn't drill the rivets for a full removal. Still shook out a few pounds of debris. Should be worth 5hp....Attached Image Attached Image
