That sounds right for the wheels pictured. My Grakus's looked just like them & with a name like Graku, they might have been an Eastern European Copy

I've been offered some of these wheels. Does anyone know more about them?? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i152.photobucket.com-13736-1382719628.1.jpg) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i152.photobucket.com-13736-1382719628.2.jpg) These wheels where manufactured by a Brazilian company named Mangal. They are high quality and were offered as dealer options for 914's in the 70's. Think they stopped making them in the late '70's, as alloy wheels were becoming more mainstream. A Chinese company remade them in the 90's, with horrible results (BIG surprise there). I've had my Brazilian wheels for 40 years and love them. There are probably some still available, but stay away from that Chinese crap (and they are CRAP!). The ones I have been offered are Made in Brasil...and have the Mangal on them...Big thanks gor the info.... |

51/2 J x 15 = wheel width, offset and diameter
10 = month (October) 70 = year (1970) |

I believe 'J' is the offset/backspacing designator. I'll measure the back-spacing when I get back to the shop. If anyone else knows the info off the top of their head, chime in.

...As a newbie, I hate to bust in on a classic wheel thread, but I've been doing a lot of wheel shopping lately, and I found these on Ebay. I think they might be the unidentified wheels in pic #19.
They are "Cal Master" and appear to be VW type wheels 4x130's. I wondered if anyone has heard of these. The only caveat is that two are 15x5 and two are 15x7...don't know how this would affect the handling. Based on the backspacing, it looks like these might actually work on a narrow body??? (yes, that is a statement/question). Maybe with a spacer? Dunno. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I get razzed about my steel wheels but I like them and they are the actual original wheels that came with my car. I like to say it's a "sleeper" 2.0. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Although if I had it to do over again I would have painted instead of powder coated. Attached thumbnail(s) ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Thanks for that link Bill. Didn't know about the bead style, nor the hump style (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)
Bookmarked it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/type.gif) |
