I'm trying to understand the RAT full flow system. If a case has been tapped and drilled for the remote filter, does this mean it bypasses the factory oil cooler?
With the setups I've seen, they tap into the remote oil filter housing with the front external cooler and it looks like the stock cooler isnt even used. (IMG:http://www.tunacan.net/t4/tech/oil_pics/layout.gif) the full flow system taps into the large oil pressure relief piston just after the cooler? so no oil is being forced through the cooler? Does this sound right? |

From my understanding, it goes a little something like this.
The oil pump output hole is plugged so the oil does not go through the case to the filter. The oil pump cover plate is tapped on the pressure side. This runs to wherever you like, then come back into the case before the cooler. I'm not sure where the bypass valve for the filter is (in red) Attached image(s) |

It's simple..
My full flow arrangement ONLY bypasses the inadequate passages in the crankcase that deliver oil to the oil filter adaptor and to also bypass the stock filter adaptor. The stock filter adaptor has a by pass valve inside it that makes it NOT A FULL FLOW SYSTEM, so when the oil is cold or at above 45 PSI only a portion of the oil is filtered. Looking at these diagrams are not the best way to understand our modification, look at a crankcase! The oil is routed from the pump directly to the filter housing (and cooler if needed) and then back to the crankcase and it's fed directly into the same oil galley that the oil ends up at after it goes through all the tweeks and bends within the case and the oil filter housing. Swapping to full flow removes 4, 90 degree degree bends within the most important portion of the oil flow path, before the entrance to the main oil galley. The stock oil pressure relief is not altered in function, at all. All we do is reroute the oil more efficiently and filter (and cool if you desire) 100% of it. 98% of the engines I build get this mod. BTW- Cloudbuster's graph is the most similar to the oil path, look at how much simpler the oil delivery is with the mods... (FWIW industrial TIV engines came from the factory with an arrangement VERY similar to this) |

i think there was a misunderstanding about your mod... someone thought it bypassed a stock cooler vs a stock filter.... |

No. I hope not. I haven't installed the external cooler yet. I have your full flow set up but in order to get the car running I just hooked the lines up to the remote oil filter (no time to wait at the time for fittings to arrive). Anxious to drive it, we've spun around town for a few minutes. |

it is still circulating oil to the oil cooler thought (the stock one on your motor) |

When I got to your house from your work, I popped open the engine bay to adjust the idle and it felt nice and cool. I wasnt worried. I mostly wanted to see how the full flow system works.
Thanks for the explanation jake! |
