Work continues on the rear trunk but that front end just has to GO!
This is the so called "IMSA" front end which is supposed to be used with big wide front flares. When not used with flares A LOT of filler must be used at the front of the fenders. As you will see...... Attached image(s) |

The body man filled in the gap between the edge of the front end and the highlight eyebrow. And that is where the rust started.......

Applied in three separate "lifts" or layers Attached image(s) |

It was not bolted on using the factory bumper bolts. There was a popped riveted piece of aluminum and than it was fiberglassed and bondo'd on.

Ahhh, nothing like a good, meaty restoration thread with lots of pictures of bondo, rivets, and DAPO work. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) Can't wait for the fix. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif) Glad to see you are restoring that car. The triad sounded great when I was over there. What color is it going to be? John |

What color is it going to be? John Excellent question. I've torn between the red which would match my race car and be the same color scheme that I've owned since 1979 and the original Olympic Blue you see hiding under the red. What say you friends???? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) |

I know how you feel with the Bondo. A parts car we had just before we purchased mine had a very wide set of flares....... made out of bondo. Can you picture it? Imagine a 914 with flares in the back..... but the entire flare is made of bondo. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chair.gif)
