Has anyone had to cut down the rubber top holders in the rear trunk so it will close with the top in it? They are new and are hitting on the cross brace inside the trunk lid when the top is stowed. It looks like the rubber holders should be inside - toward the front of the brace - for the lid to close. Guess I could move the trunk lid to the rear a bit, but it will overhang the taillights. Is that normal? Moving the lid rearward will also increase the gap between the trunk lid and engine cover. Any idea on how wide that gap should be?
Thanks in advance for the help. |

Ed, Make sure you have the top in the correct way. The targa "flap" latches should go into the strut area of the trunk

The top holders are right and left. Do you have them mounted in the correct locations? (right on right side/left on left side?)..... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)
You may have to adjust the trunk latch pin so the lid closes higher up. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I have the same issue. The only difference is that my trunk lid is not tight so I can move it 1/2 inch in any direction, which helps when latching, but looks wrong. |

My thanks to all for the replies. I did not know the rubber holders were "right" and "left" sided". I may have them switched around!

It may depend on who you got your replacement seals from. I first did mine a while back and had a really bad time with getting the top to fit into the trunk. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif) Finally figured out the rubber was significantly harder and probably thicker than the original seals. Got another set of supposedly OEM from GPR and they were much better. Not quite as soft as the originals, and you still have to position the top exactly right to get the trunk to latch, but better than the first set of "repro" seals.
