I've got them on my car, I like them but noticed the lens doesn't fit the housing so great probably because they're CIBIE's? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bs.gif) Whats the story with these lenses? Are the yellow an aftermarket lens or did any leave the factory yellow? Is there a source for new lenses? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

I have a set of NOS French foglights but the lenses are clear, the reflector is yellow. Yellow lenses sometimes showed up on 911 foglights that were the same size except the housings where chrome.

The French foglights are yellow because the French see things differently from others in the world. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)

In the past when travelling to france we had to fit yellow plastic covers, then some enterprising fellow came up with a special paint to paint onto the headlights not sure if this is still available, doubt it...

It's a real simple job to do yourself if you have spare lenses...
http://www.duplicolor.com/products/metalcast.html In the yellow color, spray the inside of the glass, more coats equals darker tint. I did a set of H4's for my Carrera as well so I can change back and forth as mood permits (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Attached image(s)

The yellow color cuts through haze and fog better (as you already knew) and the French also thought it blinded oncoming drivers less than white light. |

I just read Oregon's laws on this. It says you can't run fog lights while your low beams are on. You can only use them while your highs are on and must turn them off when a car comes. I don't get it. 914's and most other cars are wired for them to ONLY work while the lows are on.

Factory fog lights only came on with high beams. Thats why I installed the Jwest flasher unit living in the land of fog here.
And to hell with the factory fog's. The pilots available in yellow or clear, are soooo much better. |

Years ago when I worked at a Porsche/Audi/Mercedes-Benz dealer I used yellow MB foglight lens on my 914. It would have had to have been from a MB in the '70's. Don't remember which model it came from......

Factory fog lights only came on with high beams. Nope. Other way round. Factory fog lights only come on with the low beams. They turn off as soon as you switch to the high beams. All European cars do that. It's against the law to run your foglights with your highbeams. In fact, it's against the law to run your foglights under any conditions other than fog. If you use them as running lights, you will get a ticket. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) Andy |

In NC you can only run fogs w/ low beams.
From my foggy experience headlamps only light up the fog but don't cut thru it. Headlamps make it worse. All of my cars and trucks are wired to run the fogs w/ parking lamps. No tickets yet. |
