Finding brake fluid dripping from my left rear caliper says it's probably rebuild time (seems to be coming from the e-brake arm). The Haynes manual is useless here, as the section on rebuilding them says "don't do it". I've rebuilt calipers before, just never these particular calipers. So, anything in particular I need to know? Any reasonably priced manual I can buy that covers this (the $300 shop manual doesn't qualify)? This is for a '71 -4, if it makes a difference.

There are no manuals for this caliper, however, the topic has been discussed several times in the past and there are photos of the disassembled parts. Rebuild kits are pricey since there was never an official kit. There was a thread very recently on parts kits that do cover the E-brake repair.

LAPUWALI, the caliper rebuild is very easy to do. P P sent me the right kit to do the complete rebuild. I did not pull the cap (cover) off of the ebrake on one side. The hardest part was setting the venting clearence and that was not hard to do. IF YOU NEED HELP LET ME KNOW. The tech articles do help. I hope this helps Mark

There's an article on the Bird site. We also supply the rebuild kit with the O-rings that were not a part of the kit for a number of years.
