i really only planned on putting in some new speakers. really! but now the console is coming out. then gotta re-route some f*&^ked up wiring from the PO. then probably the back pad comes out per the "back pad" thread. then gotta get new carpet for the back pad to match the new carpet set i bought from our friendly carpet set guy in oregon (hint: got any back pad size carpets?).

ah well. i will drive it a few weeks later his year....... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rocking nana.gif)

was messing around up in the front trunk with some of the wiring to fix and found that annoying gas smell. friggin cloth covered fuel lines smell just like fresh gas! damn it! all i wanted was to put in new speakers. really.

found some surface rust under the old carpet set. no rust through. all very solid. but should i POR15 the areas after i clean them up? since i have the thiing apart may as well get everything right....

someday, i will listen to my new speakers and they will rock!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

oh, and i might get to drive the car someday too.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

I've never seen it on the shelf in the Springfield area.

I've got some leftover. How much do you need and how soon?

If it is just light surface rust, your FLAPS will have "rust converter". It comes in an aerosol can or brush on. It will work fine. Light wire brush or light sanding, wipe, and spray it on.

If the rust is starting to get into the metal, I would order the Por-15.

somebody stop me!!!

por15 six pack has been ordered after a nice chat with turbo ed. took a wire brush and a dremel brush to the rust. no big deal.

now the windshield is out!!!

what is the best way to clean up all that sticky crap? patience? a gas soaked rag?

and what is the best way to remove my mirror from the old windshield? never had to take one off as they usually just fall off on their own!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Phone call confirmed a severe case (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

Scott mentioned needing a lift and sandblaster and seemed interested when I mentioned a "home plating kit". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Tape off the paint and clean the windshield channel with a scraper and maybe a wire brush. Most solvents will have little effect on old sealant.

The windshield is toast so just free the mount with a scraper or a piece of wire. The OE sticky mount pad may still be available, I can check on Monday.

making progress on the windshield frame.

for the record. windshield adhesive is evil. it goes friggin everywhere and sticks to everything. it is however susceptible to brake fluid. a light coating and let it sit and then it seems to come off a bit easier. i should have a clean windshield channel for the POR15 that will arrive next week.

no major rust issues which is a relief. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif)

these speakers are taking longer to put in than i thought they would!
