I am busy sorting out my front suspension and want to fit bump steer spacers. Where do I loosen the steering rack on the steering column in order to lift it up to make space for the bump steer spacers?

at the base of the column shaft you will find one of the two U-joints that form the Z-bend. the U-joints have splined ends and Dutchman clamps. loosen the clamps, collapse the shafts into the joint. you may have to do the other one at the other end of the intermediate shaft too, but i think i just did the top one and it was enough.

make sure the bolts on the clamps are tight when you're done.

Thamks. Do I access the U joints from inside the cabin or do I have to remove the fuel tank?

in a LHD car it's pretty easy to get at the upper U-joint inside the cabin, under the dash; i presume it's the same for a RHD car but i've never seen one, so YMMV.

the lower one is, i believe - accessible from underneath, via the access panel - but it's been too long for me to remember, sorry ... give it a go with the upper joint and see if that doesn't work for you. unless you've found a way to raise the rack A LOT more than normal, it should do the trick ...

only one u-joint. it's inside the car ...
if you just install the spacers, you might not even have to undo that u-joint.
just loosening the streering rack bolts from underneath should be enough.

btw. make sure you got the longer bolts so you get enough thread with those spacers!
