I just wanted to get everyone's thoughts. I am in the midsts of restoring my teener, and have been degreasing the engine compartment and the wheel wells, after fixing major rust. I have the rear suspension out as well. I was thinking of blacking out the wheel wells, and possibly painting the entire engine compartment like a nuetral gray. The reason for this is that I don't know exactly what color I am going to paint the body, although it will be a metallic blue (a color change from green, but I don't care). If anyone has any thoughts or pics to share of compartments that are not body colored, but still professional looking, please post. I was also thinking or brushing on paint in the wheel wells, that way it would go on a little thicker. Any suggestions? What does everyone think, can you still look professional, and show-car worthy without the compartment matching?

People (read potential buyers down the road) that care will always see the car as a bastard color change or some such. Go with the final paint color IMHO.

Im going to be doing something similar soon on my 914. Did it come from the factory with painted wheel wells? Or were they black? And the engine bay on top is obviuously the paint color, but how about on the bottom (underneath the deck and toward the transmission)? Was all that black? I was thinking of spraying some por15 to that area to keep it from rusting and make it a uniform color incase anyone wants to look.
