My brother and I will be at Streets on 7/30 and 7/31 if anyone wants to join.
I've never run with this group, and it's been about 18 months since I've been on the track... http://www.extremespeedtrackevents.com/eve...ge.listevents/- -Steve |

Have fun and be safe! I love Streets. Does this group use the layout with or without the bowl?

Me too. "Slowest" track I've driven on, but plenty fast for me. > Does this group use the layout with or without the bowl? No idea... We'll see! -Steve |

last time i went with this group they did use the bowl, CW sat AND CCW sun i think, i took the 914 last time but am planning to try out the 355 this time. The only problem is it looks like 95 degrees + so i may stay home and stay cool (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif)

I've never run with this group, and it's been about 18 months since I've been on the track... http://www.extremespeedtrackevents.com/eve...ge.listevents/- -Steve Hey Steve, It's great to have some 914 guys out on-track. ExtremeSpeedTrackEvents runs Streets the same as a number of other time-trial groups, although, SpeedTrialUSA is my favorite--they are so "driver-friendly." Regardless of the sanctioning group, I have come to understand that the Track-hired start-finish & corner-worker group actually RUNS the events. This is not good news as I have experienced a number of STUPID things they have done: Black flagging me because the failed to notice my car numbers, a corner worker running across the track while I was in the middle of a high-speed section of the track, releasing me from the pits in perfect timing to have an “encounter” with a car already on-track. So don't let the dim-wits intimidate you . There is 1 BIG change in the track since you've been out there: the blind chicane after the exiting bowl straight: It has been extensively widened, is a completely different chicane and is MUCH faster, no down-shift is required. While the blind rise entry to the section always gives “pause”, after a few laps, you will learn that you can go much deeper and carry more speed through the corner. I found the video below and found it quite good in showing the lines around the current track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8oD2_Dh5e4 I’ll be out for the 20 August NIGHT EVENT at Streets with SpeedTrialUSA and would love to see some 914s show up! Best, Terry |

I found the video below and found it quite good in showing the lines around the current track Those are the "safe" lines. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Especially going through the bowl, if you take it wider at the beginning and tuck in about half way through you can exit much faster than what is shown in the video .... That video is actually quite good, IMHO. Perhaps some slight variations to suit your driving preferences and the type of car. As SirAndy opined, there are a couple of different lines through the bowl, and I prefer his (description) over that in the video. Carrying a slightly higher line through the last 1/3 of that turn will be faster. I would also exit the skid pad turn slightly later than in the video to get a good run on the straight.

My first on-track experience was on the Streets at WCR 2009. Seeing that video brought back lots of great memories of trying to improve with each lap. Wish I could be there!

I love Streets! I also use a different line in the Bowl, staying outside and apexing fairly late. With fresh tires I try to carry 3rd gear through, but otherwise (esp. CCW direction) I've found that dropping to 2nd IN the turn is slightly quicker. I would not recommend shifting in the bowl to anyone without significant experience...
From what I can figure, the 2nd (hot) lap in the video was around a 1:34 which is not terribly quick, but as noted above it is the safe/instructor line. The driver seems very smooth, though and it is great to have video resources available before visiting a new track. |

I tried both 2nd and 3rd .. 2nd allowed me to be more in the power band. The best time I had 1:40, one day I can be in the sub 1:30's (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

I raced GSXR's on the big track, but have only been on the Streets once with a 87 930. I would compare it to performing brain surgery with butcher knife. That track is not forgiving. Stock seats that don't hold you in place did not help either. I would love to take my 914 up there to run on the big track. Never been on there with a car...

POC is holding a driver's clinic at Streets on September 10th and a short-track (PDS) points event on September 11th. It would be awesome to see some more 914's out there... |

It was a really crappy weekend for me. On the 3rd run group on Saturday and I went off on the back straight and I found one of the portable lights that had been set up for night racing. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
I've got a big project in front of me. The photos look bad, but it's actually a bit worse. Things got quite tweaked (likely due to the various chassis reinforcement/stiffening that didn't let anything crumple easily). But I'll get it rebuilt. Look for a project thread to start in a couple weeks when I can stand to open the garage door again. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) -Steve (and a big thanks [again] to Brad Roberts (if he still visits here) for dragging my car home Saturday night - 3.5 hours away!!!) Attached image(s) ![]() |
