What I have been told (by those that should know) for years.
Is that the cam part numbers never changed but the cam grind changed over the 5 years of production for emissions. So an early cam in, say a 70 1.7 had the same part number as the cam used in a 75 but the cam profile was a little different. All our competition engines that had to meet production class rules used an Elgin cam grind based on the earliest specs. Jim There are different size cam gears depending on how the cam and crank mesh. |
