My '74 - 1.8L has SS heat exchangers....

I plan to change muffler, how can I tell whether I have 1.8L or 2.0L heat exchangers?

This is fairly difficult to put into words but I'll give it a shot.

1.7/1.8 heat exchanges. On the muffler end of the heat exchanger, the exhaust pipes make a fairly significent bend upwards and then straighten out to meet the muffler.

2 Liter heat exchangers. On the muffler end of the heat exchanger, the exhaust pipes do not have a bend to them. They pretty much go straight back all the way to the muffler.

here is a 2.0 he. they have a very slight upsweep at the flange. the 1.7/1.8 have a pronounced turn up. maybe 2".

Kinda like being gay or straight...ya know when see them. Living in Illinois SSI HEs would be a good idea....heat up faster and don't rust. But then the car rusts like a mofo....

BTW....they all fit the engine at the exhaust ports....it's just that you need the right muffler and hanger to match the SSI ends......so if ya have a 2.0 and find a set of 1.7/1.8 s/s pipes....grab them if they come with a muffler and/or hanger.

BTW2....the 2.0 and 1.7/1.8 SSI heat exchangers are the same diameter pipe....so no diff on performance.

BTW3....they did NOT make an SSI in the 75/76 configuration.
