This may seem like a dumb question. Do the 914-4 engines use a dry sump oil system? I am looking at getting a nice breather bottle but i don't know if the one on summit racing is what i need because is say's it is for a dry sump system. so can any one let me know please.

914's are wet sump and 914/6 are dry sump.

So, would you remove the hose from the "elbow", that comes from the PCV, and stick it in the bottle? Would this be a way to keep the phlenum cleaner?

On a stock injected engine.. I want the engine to pull a vaccuum on itself. This actually frees up a few hp. Make sure you have the hoses going to the correct places. They should all be above the air cleaner (in the top) meaning that the vapor gets filtered before going into the throttle body.

B, the air cleaner has very little if any vacuum.
The hose from the PCV valve (that's the one in or next to the oil filler) should go to the manifold, not the air cleaner. If you're getting a lot of oil in the manifold from this, you might want to pick up a new PCV valve. They are evidently available again after a while of being NLA. I have also heard of people putting a restrictor with a small hole into the hose, which probably helps at least some with the oil. Hmm, maybe running the PCV hose to a separator of some kind, then plumbing the separator to the manifold?? That might be one way to keep the oil out... --DD |

Im not having any problems with too much oil going in there, I was just curious. Brad, when you say pulling a vacuum on itself, does the stock D-Jet set up do this? My hoses are connected properly. Is there still power to free up by re-routing any hoses?

I am going to be using this on a car wth carbs. you guys are talking about a car with fi. for my car all i have to do is run the hose from where i put the oil in and hook it to the bottle. is that correct?

They are talking about a car with FI here.
Chris, you want the PVC hose to go to the plenum right next to where the MPS hose hooks up. Thats a strong vacuum to pull the air out of the engine block where it gets pressurized from the blowby and shit flying around in a circle. You want the intake to pull that out and then digest it. By reducing the pressure inside the motor the engine spins easier (a small amount) Geoff |
