I have a 67 Beetle that needs more zip and no way to I want to be passed on the freeway again. I am hoping this forum will assist me by transplanting a Porsche engine and transmission in to the old bug.

When I was a kid I was blown away by a bug with a porsche engine.

You'll probably find more folks with conversion expertise over on http://www.shoptalkforums.com , in the "Type 4um". One member there, Joe Cali, sells a booklet on how to do the conversion, making pretty much all of the conversion parts yourself. There's a whole lot of info there, do a search when you get there and you'll see a whole lot.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) i did the conversion on my '74 superbeetle some 20 years ago.
did it all myself with no "forum" to guide me. today, i'd probably consider it a hack-job, but back then my Type4 2.0L powered beetle was sooooo cool! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

i even used the stock D-Jet injection on it ...
if you know how to weld, it'll be a fun project.

I did this conversion when I was 16 on a 66' bug. It was a 1.7 from a 914. I purchased the "Dog house" fiberglass colling fan conversion kit to change to the upright 911 style fan and cooling system. Got a set of dual carbs and I was off!

You can build a better type 1 engine for the money though. Example:

If you have $1000 to spend on an engine, start with a good 1600 type one DP. The $1000 will yield a better/more powerful engine than what you can get at type 4 engine for.

If buget is not much of a concern.... Don't they make 4.0 kits for type 4 engines now? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

No sweat at all.. My 66 Beetle runs all day at 85-90 just as well as any teener...

All you need is right here, and its my specialty www.massivetype4.com no guessing and you can do the entire thing in one weekend, WITH NO CUTTING of the car or the engine!

Hell, with my shroud you can even add A/C and it looks factory.
