I have a 75 2.0, I was trying to put in a new aftermarket stereo, but found the red and yellow power leads were not connected to the fuse panel, or anywhere. Do I need to run these directly to the battery or where should it be patched into the fuse box? thanks

My stereo is wired directly to the battery, but that is because I don't want to have the ignition on to listen to the stereo while working on the car. Not sure which circuit the original wiring should be connected to.
If you connect directly to the battery, install a fuse close to the battery - This will prevent the possibility of a fire should the lead short between the battery and the underdash fuse (lead melts, potentially catches fire). |

Straight to the battery. Fused at the battery. You might need a noise filter too. Radio Shack. Put at the radio.

The radio should have included either wiring information or a wiring diagram. One of your power leads should be connected to a 12V, non-switched power source. The other lead should go to a switched power lead ( a power source that is only on when the key is in the "ON" position). A test light is your friend when doing these kind of installs. you know - I'd prefer to NOT have to remember to turn the radio off when the ignition is turned off - I appreciate having noise while working on the car, but my 70's disco-boom-box serves that need!
so, having already shown my disco duds, where should you tap into the fuse box for the radio? td |
