I didn't notice any significant changes in power. But there is a nice change in sound. It's louder, and a bit more aggressive hearing the intake.
I do like the way they clean up the engine compartment. Cars... the way they should be. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Despite the fact that those two vent holes run to the air cleaner, when they were disconnected, I never noticed any slobber coming from them. -Rusty |

I think I mentioned on 914rennlist (could be the little winkie list though) that Bruce Andrson emailed me with a recomendation to put the stock air cleaner back on if I wanted more power. He said that the motor lost poer on a dyno with out the stock box and with K&Ns. That said, I too like the clean look and the sound. Yesterday, I ran with all pipes open on the muffler and just loved it (except for the massive POP when I let off the gas from high RPMs).

Lawrence I like the look also, the PMO watershields were on of the first changes I made on my six. It is noisier, but it looks much cleaner and I added a small K&N filter to the crankcase breather off to the side near the oil tank.
I haven't noticed power changes up or down to warrante reinstalling the stock filter. Bruce Anderson was here in Portland in November for the Rainbonnet weekend and he told me the same thing about the dyno test. He is a longtime 914-6 owner. CCLINSHABBYCAMP |

I can verify the BA quote as well. I took their tuneup class, which they sort of aim at the cars in the group. When he found a couple of 914/6's in the crowd, we got several great stories/comments from his driving days, and when for each off the topics (how to change oil/etc) both he and Jerry made sure that any 914/6 oddities were covered as well.
It is certainly true that the stock air cleaner hides the engine. The twin carb look is much cleaner, even through the engine lid. kim. |

I was in Seattle awhile ago and I answered and ad in the Seattle paper, for Porsche parts for sale. The seller turned out to be a retired enginner from Boeing who made Lexan or a clear plastic material windows and other items for Porsches.
We started talking and I told about my 914-6 and he said that he had thought about making a clear engine cover or shroud, just like the one that fits between the carbs. CCLINSHABBYCAMP |

A clear shroud sounds kinda cool...a bit ricey, but cool. (Have you seen those clear/translucent engine lids for the rice cars?)
If you guys think the K&N's are loud, you should hear the ITG's. You can't even hear the exhaust (w/ a stock muffler) over the carbs. I'm gonna fix that with...a louder exhaust. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) |

I installed a BMW front plate from the air flow meter to the front of my 75 1.8 914 air flow meter. This allowed me to bolt on a K&N cone type filter. I noticed a big difference. But I also did a complete tune up on the car and had everything dialed in .

I remember reading somewhere (I don't remember where but maybe on Pelican) a while back that there was really no advantage to the K&N filters on a stock FI'd 4 banger. Certainly nothing like the K&N people claim, that's for sure! I remember being surprized and dissapointed when I read that because I've always been a fan of K&N filters, but hey, you can buy several Purolator air filters for the cost of a K&N and you don't have to clean 'em, just pitch 'em. |

They are typically worth 2-3 Hp and a few lb feet of torque.
Its nothing that you will notice by driving the car.. I tested with and without on some of our last chassis dyno pulls. Best yield was without the entire assembly (4hp) B |
