Are the retaining springs absolutely necessary? It seems like these are hard to get. I obviously do not really know what they do.

They keep the pads pressed against the pistons instead of rattling around between the pistons and the disk...............they are very much needed.........According to Eric Shea, there is a 911 part that can be used if you can't obtain the 914-4 front part. Check with him.....Jerry
