I was looking around on the web for an optima orange top, I found this site and found a reverse post battery they are offering. I guess now the reverse post batterys will now have a red top instead of the orange one.

I bought a reverse post red...fit right in and didn't have to stretch or change any wiring! Went down and got it at sears..i had to give them their part number, explain it...explain it again until I finally got the right one.

I've called some retailers in my area to see if they had any of the RedTop 34R models and none of the retailers had them. So I just ordered it from the website I posted above, will be shipped out today. Its time for a new battery.

my 34R took a bit of grinding to fit right.
I had to remove some of the plastic base. the 34 that was in there previously fit perfect. |

If I were to do it again, I would go with the 34 and lie it on it's side.

Optima batterys don't leak. They are the defacto standard for quality batteries right now.

An orbital, or a odyssey would do the job too. They're all pretty much the same thing, and for the duties of starting a car they're equivalent. The price scale goes orbital, optima, and then at the most expensive, odyssey. (I'm sure there's other brands, but these are the ones I know of) Oh, intertstate makes an AGM battery too.

QUOTE So... why exactly would ya want an Optima Battery? what does it do that a "Kragen" battery can't? Leak may not be the best word. The reason so many 914s have rusted out battery trays is because regular batteries "vent" their acid on to the tray which causes rust and if it drips below to the fuel lines you could be in big trouble. An Optima or Orbital is one of the best things you can do for your 914. |

It's really even more diabolical. The lead-acid batt literally vents sulfuric acid vapors which deposits as acid on moist surfaces. The battery does not have to leak to rust the suspension right out from under the car. See, even German engineers do dumb things!

I bought a small dry gel battery fro a Mazda Miata, $85.00 at Battries Plus. Smaller than Optima and MUCH,MUCH lighter.
I was trying for the Odysey and the Stinger battery, much more money and much heavier. Take a look and you may be suprised. CCLINBATTERIERUS |
