HI,

Just spoke toEuropean Motorworks regarding the 96mm cylinders that they supply.

They have them made in the US and the qc is as good or better than honing your 1.8 or 2.0 jugs. I decided to take a chance and go with them.

Also decided to try their rods. You save about 250 grams of rotating mass per rod and they come with ARP bolts.

Anyone else have experience with these products? I'll let you know what happens when I open the box.

I saw those also when I bought my pistons from them. I was curious if they were AA cylinders. I still haven't decided if I want to have my cylinders bored to size or just buy theirs.

I have those pistons and cylinders in my car. Only 250 on it though, so too early to tell.

From what George told me, they make or have cylinders made exclusively for them. They are not Chinese and I do not believe they are AA.

They use Keith Black Hypereutectic pistons.
Same ones that Jake sells (he gets his from EMW)

George and I talked about these as well. We had talked about using my 66mm crank and redrilling it to match the journals on the H beam 2L rods. Thus making a crazy combo of 2054cc or something. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Since I made a point to tell him I did not want any Chinese crap in my motor, he did admit the rods were Chinese, but were of great quality. He said if he thought they were junk he wouldn't use them.

Rod weight doesn't affect crank balance on a horizontally opposed engine.

The set I bought were already balanced! I'm not sure if they meant to or if they are just that precise. They are really great products.

Reviving this old thread as I have the same exact question. Does anyone have any experience with these rods from EMW? Curious to hear good/bad.

As a follow-up, what advantage will the weight savings over stock rods really have for day to day driving? What other mods could make the most of the lighter rods? Lightened flywheel? Counterweighted crank?

Any review notes?

This seems like a logical upgrade to me, as the price of these rods isn't too much higher than stock rebuilt ones. According to the OP, they save a full Kg of rotating mass (!!) in a 2 liter engine. That's a lot less weight the crank has to deal with at the top and bottom of every stroke.

Seems like lightening the flywheel might also help, but I am not enough of an engineer to know what the pros and cons of that would be. I would think quicker throttle response? Less wear and tear on main/rod journals? Feel free to school/bash me. I have more room to learn than most. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/slap.gif)

Mehhhh i wish you would just buy my spare parts.
So far they are still in the motor, i have not started it yet. maybe this weekend. but i doubt it.
