I recently had a mechanic replace my pushrod tube seals and adjust the valves. Now the car seems a bit more difficult to start (it already was due to the PO MegaSquirt setting), and it idles rough as soon as I start it. It almost wants to die unless I give it some gas, but after I get up the street a bit, it seems to idle smoothly at about 1500 RPMS. The mechanic mentioned that my valves were way loose.
Do this problem sound like he may have overtightened them, the valves? He is a fairly popular aircooled guy here in town, but I dont know how many 914s he works on and I know the settings are a big different for the 2.0 than the other 914s. Any other factor that could affect my idle at startup? Thanks |

Is this a stockish internal 2.0? The reason I ask is the valve adjustment for my 2432 is 0.
Hook it up and retune it? |

The reason I ask is the valve adjustment for my 2432 is 0. Hook it up and retune it? Zero lash is for steel push rods only Dude. Am I wrong? |

I'm trying to determine what 'kind' of 2 liter we are talking about... Also, if it's mega squirt why not tune it? |

Yes, it is a stock 2.0.
To clarify, I just had the pushrod tube seals replaces and now it idles very rough until warmed up and I am wondering if it is a valve issue. |

Do you have a wideband sensor on your MS setup? That might give a little insight as to what is going on. 2 things come to mind as possibilities.
1. Valves adjusted wrong. 2. Valves were wrong before adjustment and correct now, engine vacuum at idle has changed and megasquirt is now reading from a different MAP/RPM bin that is not set correctly. There are tons of other possibilities but those are the 2 that pop into mind related to the valves being adjusted. If the megasquirt setup was installed by a PO and you know nothing about it, get ready for a steep learning curve. Are you fuel only or fuel and spark? |

I agree with James. Valves were wrong before or wrong now, and the ms needs to re tuned.

I agree with James. Valves were wrong before or wrong now, and the ms needs to re tuned. Thanks, I talked to the mechanic again and he seemed to feel the same way. I should be be meeting with the previous owner soon and am going to see if he will give me a crash course in MegaSquirt. He did give me all the previous tuning tables on a USB stick. |
