I am having a hard time finding replacement carpet and seat vinyl for my brown interior 74. Any suggestions on best source for a carpet kit and seat vinyl?

I think the recommendation I've heard most is World Upholstry, but I believe most of that was the same at the VW basketweave of the time, so an alternative could be VW places like GoWesty and about a hundred others like them. Just match the patterns well, because there were a number of different ones over the years in the VW's. I had a local vintage VW specialist shop do mine, and I can't tell the difference. No concours-wonk has hassled me about it either, though they may have already gone apoplectic after looking inside the engine compartment.

I just noticed that Westfalia website has plaid seat material as well. Not my style but I remember someone else asking where to find it.

The brown I had a real hard time sourcing for green car. I ended up cutting the patterns myself out of oem roll stock I purchased from George at AA. Found a perfect match for the welting at a local apholstery shop, and had them sew it on. Biggest problem is going to be figuring out a way to do the heat pressed grommets if you decide to go that route. You should be able to use your old ones if you carefully remove them, then glue them on the new. If you want a sample of the carpet and welting, pm me your address and I'll send it out to you. Replicating the factory carpet was quite expensive. There is a German brown loop that is close from one of the carpet vendors. I'll see if I can find out which one it was. Will be much less expensive going that route, and should look quite nice.

Try Autos International. Give them a call and ask them to send you some samples.

Pretty sure it was global that had selections that were close. Maybe send samples out to the different places to see if they can find a match.

I'm pretty sure that Global, World & Autos International are all working from the same materials sources - & they'll send you samples (order online); and those are also the sources for GoWesty, Bus Depot, vsip & the other VW guys (although the VW guys do stock some of the 75-76 914 plaids).

World & AI can do both 914 kits & full service reupholstery, and the 911 CW guys swear by AI for 356, 911/912, etc. too.

Unfortunately, they can get black basketweave - but no friggin' beige/tan or brown anymore, which is strange since they just heat-press the pattern into whatever color. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

You might try this Belgian carpet source, as they're supposedly a better quality loop pile than the domestics sold here (& maybe better than the German sold here too), according to some members. They may send a sample too.

I received these samples from World Upholstery & Trim in Santa Paula, CA about 3 weeks ago. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

The top is Vinyl, bottom Leather.

The image probably doesn't do them justice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I was surfing for estimates, so no prices as yet...

Couple links I grabbed from vwvortex. Looks like they have the basket weave.
