Mine has quit working so now is the time to make it "better". Any recommendations on a cigarette lighter that works with modern plugs (like a GPS)?

Take your pick. They almost all fit the new plugs now days. I got one that looked similar to stock but the lighter hasn't been in since I took it out off the package. I think I'll go back to stock just for looks, and fit another modern one under the dash or in the console somewhere out of site.

Mine has been missing the insert (lighter) part since I've had the car.

The receptacle is getting power...just no luck in getting anything to power up from it. I am hoping there is one that uses the same lugs/spades but fits modern accessory plugs

Stock is too large in internal diameter.

I bought a current one and stuck it in for power for cell & gps.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm looking for an OEM 1974 lighter, for appearance. (were they the same in all years?). Anyone got one for sale?

I picked up a USB blank that fit in the hole, and just replaced it with that. Nobody uses it as a cig lighter anymore, and you're always just plugging something USB in anyways.

One of these: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002MW6HRO/ref=cm...4vStb1KDNKDJPN1

And one of these: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CGRMGZM/ref=cm...5vStb1ZQCD9YN3A

I get 5V @ 2A (enough to charge an iPad) and it's wired in directly.

Back in the day, Passport Radar Detectors used to supply this part to allow their power plugs to fit into the German lighter sockets. Attached Image

Another possibility is this:

http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Sea-Systems-Cha...replacement+usb

My only concern with putting in a USB plug is that the USB standards are changing all the time (I think they are up to USB3 with USB4 coming out Real Soon Now ™).

I need to replace mine as well, as it drops almost a full volt through the socket (!!!).
