1975 1.8 EC L-Jet motor. What pieces of tin am I missing from the front of this engine?
And does anyone know where I can source them?

Second question is about this piece on the wire to the CHT sensor. Is it simply a connector, or is it a resistor of some kind. It has a VW logo on it and the number 440, and a 12 inside the recessed circle.

You are missing part of the front tin that is spot welded to the long piece.
It is just a connector on the CT sendor.

That pic is of no use that's a d-jet engine, different from a L-jet.

Not sure what Mark is talking about as the front tins you need are the same on L jet or D jet. There are two pieces missing. I will see if i have both of them.

I think this is what you are looking for.

If Bruce doesn't have one for you, this one is available. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

There is a separate piece of tin that goes in front of the alternator. It's there so you don't have to take the whole front tin piece off if you replace the alt.

The other piece you are missing was cut out to fit an air conditioning compressor. This was done at the dealer when AC was installed. The proper fix for it would be to replace the front tin piece with one that hasn't been cut.

D-jet tin and L-jet tin are the same, especially for these parts. (The 2.0 over-cylinder tin has different spark plug hole locations; the tins under the engine are different for 70-72 versus 73-74 versus 75-76, and so on, but these particular ones didn't change at all.)

The CHT connector is just a connector. It's a piece of plastic to hold the male and female spade lugs together without letting them short to ground on the engine tin or any other metal nearby. The resistor, when present, is a separate piece with another box connector on it.

Thanks Bruce and DD and the others who have replied to my post. If Bruce has both pieces, I'd be interested in buying them, and if not, I would be interested in buying the one piece DD has. I thought I was probably kissing two pieces of tin up front.

I meant missing, obviously not kissing these parts. Although I am very fond of my 914.

It was Montreal 914 that offered the pieces. I am very low on them and prefer not to sell them.
DD mainly supplies all the right answers.

Bruce, you are correct, as it was Montreal914 that has one of the pieces of tin I am missing, and not DD. maybe I'll post a WTB on the Classified forum.
