Hello all,
I'd like to get some feedback on these because I haven't made a whole bunch, but if theres more interest, i'll spend the dough... I have a few more in production, and these still need to get anodized, which is about a month or two away. For any of you who are looking to put Boxster calipers on your A or S 911 struts, here is a kit I've been working on. (IMG:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads4/P10100021107205777.jpg) The front adapters are on the right, the GT rears are on the left. The reason i call the rears "GT" is because they use a rear Boxster rotor which has less inward offset than an SC or Carrera rear rotor. I'm currently reaching production of the 914/911 ('69-'89) rear (non-GT) adapters next week. Then off to anodizing, then for sale. The front adapters will work under a 15" rim. All offsets are for a stock, non 'S' Boxster '97-present. The front kit with bolts runs $300. (IMG:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads4/P10100331107220300.jpg) The rear adapters 'non-GT', will use a 911SC rear rotor, and relocate the caliper to the top of the rotor for clearance reasons. The picture of this part is a rapid prototype done on a Z-Corp printer. I don’t have a picture of this mounted, but the two lower bolt holes allow bolts to hold this piece to the trailing arm, then the caliper bolts to the two threaded holes facing upward. This rear kit with bolts runs for $400 (IMG:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads4/P10100041107220599.jpg) The rear adapters 'GT', will use a stock Boxster (non-'S') rear rotor. The issue with this setup is that the rotor is not as deep as the SC rear rotor, but has a larger rotor diameter to keep the caliper in the same location (not mounted on top like the non-GT kit). so the caliper's outer half sticks out slightly past the wheel mating surface, requiring a 7mm spacer to be added so that rims (like a 15" Fuchs) will clear the caliper. This rear kit with bolts runs for $300. (IMG:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads4/P10100311107220268.jpg) Calipers, rotors, and pads can be aquired new from me, your favorite parts supplier, or any Porsche dismantler. |

looks nice...I hate people like you that actually get a product out there unlike slackers like me that do nothing but talk about it, LOL
how much do the calipers normally sell for? is the stock (or 19mm) MC up to the task? so more "modern" rims will not have a clearance issue in the rear? |

This is pornography! lol.
Ok, if I'm reading this right...I can get the "GT" adapters and install boxster brakes front/rear? I currently have 71 911 front end with vented rotors and 911 vented rotors in the back. I'm also sporting 16" boxster rims (so I shouldn't have caliper spacing issues?). |

Mueller, thanks for the kind words... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)
The Boxster calipers new are about $600/pair. From LA Porsche Dismantler you can get all 4 for $400... I think. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/unsure.gif) I did install a 23mm master cylinder. But i imagine the 19 might work. I've heard mixed reviews, I personally like the hardest pedal i can get. With regards to the rear rims, as long as there is 7mm of distance in the "hub length" or " caliper hight", then you'll be fine... see below. Aaron and Jim,
The problem with the M struts is that they don't allow me to get close enough to the rotor because the caliper mounting tabs located too far outward. I've been working on comming up with a hub like Brad/Mueller have made to allow different offsets/rotor diameters so that one could use the M sturts with these bigger brakes. Also note that pre 74 911 sturts did have the 3.5" spacing... Both 911 E and S from '69 had the A and S sturts. I don't want to start tromping around on Brads and Muellers hub ideas, but i do have some ideas already in the CAD files... |

Here is the only pic I have, actually a crop job, of what Rich's kit looks like. It also uses the 3.5" 911 Struts and Carrera rotors. The caliper bracket itself could be made any number of ways as far as I can tell.

Lookin good!
It suprises me how many of the folks on this board are able to develop new products. What clearance issues on the rear? Mine are run in the stock position with no issues? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif) Never mind I reread it and I understand now (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/monkeydance.gif) |
