Suggestions are requested from experienced interior guys as to what to do with my firewall. A stock pad is out of the question.

OT- you must be short with shortlegs, there is no way i could drive that cart without putting the seat all the way back (cant - cage is in the way )

What I would do is to make multi piece pad to fit in there and cover it with upolstery foam and leather or vinyl. It would at least give you some sound & heat barrier between you and the engine compartment.

That's a great question! I also have to do something with my firewall and a stock pad is too heavy and will not fit with my cage.

If you're into racing, wouldn't you want to consider some fire resistant material? I wouldn't think foam rubber or similar upholstery padding that could combust easily would be a good idea.

I know a lot of guys have just capreted it. Put some sort of sound deadening material over it, like DynaMat, and carpet over it. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif)

I know I've seen pics, and it looked pretty good.

Morphenspectra sells carpet for the firewall. I have theirs, but am nowhere near ready to install it so I can't give any input as to how it fits or looks.

Im also considering replacing the the BP with some combo sound-deadening and carpeting, And any one with some Pics of thier finished job please post. my question is is you carped the firewall how have you trimmed or finished the Top where the window seals to the Wall?

we went out to our yard and installed a carpet to a firewall.just to show it can be done it takes some working to do it but it sticks pretty good.with 3 m super 77.
we have it in black and charcoal it matches our carpet kits.
the only edge that is cut to fit is the bottom part.the rest has extra for you to fit.you simply use a razor knife to trim right at the bottom of the window,and at the edge of the door.larryp just installed one (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) its in our parts and product thread.

You could try this stuff, neoprene like material. They use this stuff inside of aircraft, very light weight, and has great sound deadening qualitys. I bought a sheet of this and used it behind my backpad. I also used it when redoing some door panels, used it to back the basketweave material,,,, great stuff.

I just cut the carpet straight across and it looks fine. If/when I find a good rubber trim piece I may use that also.

I did not use the dynamat though. I have heard it was unnecessary. I won't know for sure until I drive the car in the spring.

I'd put an access cover in there first and then use one of James' (Morphenspectra) kits.

I was planning on an entire felt interior in my GT project. I think James' kit is the slickest look for what you've got going.

I've always wondered about carpeting the rear firewall and figured I would do it if I ever got a 914. that product looks really good!

I have also thought about covering it up and each time I go to the track, people always complement me on how clean it looks with the fire wall clean and painted.
I did cut an access panel for the timing and to change the belt.
Question, Your driver side roll bar looks a bit inwards, did you try to sit in it with the seat in place, I had problems with mine.

I hope to see your finished project.
