Just wanted you all to know I met Larry and Dad tonight at a Cool local Hot Rod Shop here in Des Moine! Larry is heading back to Texas with his Flywheel, Engine mount, and Freshly modified transaxle. Larry will post pictures when he gets home. Keep your fingers crossed for him. He said he thought he may be running into a snow storm on the way home.

I want to thank John Mc Nulty owner of "The Rod Garage" In Des Moine IA. For loaning us his shop for the evening! John, If you check in on us, Your the best! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif) Here's the link to his shop. Anyone that needs parts for a hot rod or conversion car needs to give him a call.

The Rod Garage

Great to meet you Larry, Tell Dad it was great talking with him. I can tell he was one hell of a salesman! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wavey.gif)

I am going to be in Des Moine until Thursday for work!

Ok Rich just testing the waters here. Got my 70 body shell all apart and am thinking I need more power. Reading the rules in SCCA I think I can stay in SM-2 if I use a 928 motor but not if I use a chevy????

Seems you have a good recipe for this conversion. After a few more what do you think the difficulty level will be at? I will probably buy a motor from 928INTL as I think they still have my credit card on file (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif) At least I my be able to avoid some of the hardships of whacked out motors.

Is your recipe for 928 conversion in print or just between your ears at this stage?

Sweet! Is that a strictly 928 conversion, or can I do that with my SBC conversion to free up some space? Seems like I remember hearing there was some sort of special throwout bearing spacer for kennedy's kits.. perhaps I could cut that much off the bellhousing and omit the spacer?

Then lets chat with John about the cool old rods he has going. I know Ill end up getting some parts from him when he comes down for the Good Guys in Fort Worth. Im thinking some rod throttle setups may just work.

THANKS for the use of the shop John. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/clap.gif)

And a special THANK YOU to Dr. Rick for being kind to my trans. It was its first operation you know. On the scale of one to ten? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/idea.gif) That depends on your skill... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif)

This is not a chevy bolt in. You really have to have the desire. I'd be glad to help anyone who really needs to have the exotic 928 motor in their teener.

For now the plans are in my head. I don't plan on making a business out of the conversion. I dout I'd sell more than one kit a year.

just having fun.

Ask the Renegade crew. As far as I know this is a 928 only mod.

Rick
Why do you shorten the bellhousing? To move the tranny forward? To make up for the adapter plate?

To make up for the 928 block and the thickness of the adapter plate. This gets the input shaft back into the pilot bearing and the starter back into the ring gear.

you cut the bell housing off for the adapter plate to get the input shaft closer to the flywheel... why could you not weld a spacer to get the flywheel further away from the engine instead. it is just easier, and can you use the stock fly wheel. i guess if you had to modify the flywheel it would be just as easy to put the spacer on the flywheel, if not cutting the bell housing is less trouble than welding the flywheel.

am i correct and typing what my brain says is hard, i understand what i said but will anybody else

Check larry's progress thread. We posted photos of the new flywheel. I don't believe in adding a spacer behind the flywheel. There can be balance issues and long bolts you would need could shear off during acceleration or de-celeration. Just bad science. Besides, it moves the transaxle forward a little over an inch.
