Ground school, emphasis on late apex Options

My son, Mike P from work (1995 993) and I attended GGR ground school in prep for the High Speed Driving school at Infineon Feb 19th. No 914's in the parking lot but Howard (Kermit) was there on his bad boy Ducati. Great in car video of infineon with turn by turn breakdown wrong line vs right line. Gee, those walls near turn 10 seem awful close to the track! Definite gastro intestinal butterflies for me watching the in-car video. Also some Laguna in-car with a engine failure and resultant 944 fireball and cool but rapid off into the sandtraps at turn 6 right in front of the video car . Pucker time. The wife says that my son and I can run the Boxster if we want at the event. With both the 914's out of commision which should we run? Boxster or 78SC? Not fond of beating on the 911.

Thought that was you. Are you doing HSDS?

Unfortunately not. I sent email to the registrar and she said it was full up. I can do the next one in April though. I also need more time to get my car together. The 911 needs tires, shocks, brakes bled, and an alignment/corner balance before I take it on a track.

The Boxster might be more forgiving, but you may learn more with the 911. If you will eventually use the 914, I would go with the 911. I think they are more alike on the track.

I disagree. I think the boxter will act much more like a 914 on the track than a 911. The 911 is definaltely harder to drive quickly on a track than a boxter (or a 914). The boxters I have driven at speed are very forgiving as are properly set up 914's. The 911's take more finesse and a lighter touch on the steering wheel than do the driver friendly mid-engined wondercars.

Go with the boxter.

Strange huh, bunch of 914 owners, but not a single one in the parking lot.

My excuse is that the Optima battery in my 914 is bullet proof, but my weenie battery in the Duc is real crap - so I had to ride it to keep it running....

I don't understand why you'd rather use the Boxster for the track, rather than "beat up" on the 911. Your Boxster is such a beautiful car, I would take the opposite approach. But you guys are right, the Boxster is going to be a lot more forgiving, while the 911 definately has a higher "pucker-potential quotient". I've spun way too many 911s with bad tires...

IMO, the 914 is easy to drive. Best to learn to drive the 911 fast. Makes you safer on the street.

My son was disappointed that there were no 914's in the parking lot. Funny that the 914 was the butt of the SLOW car jokes all day. I think we wil run the 911 for the event. Both my son and I should be running our 914's for the rest of the season after this event.
