Hi dear teeners!

I'm about to install my rear suspension console (from restoration design) replacement with the help of Mark doing the welding. Anyone used restoration design console and is it just bolt on the same spot? I was not able to get any measurement since the old console is damaged. I tried the measurement of 28 1/4" from center firewall to the console. I'm getting that measurement but it is on the accelerator cable tube from firewall to the driver side console center hole for the rear arm. Is that right? accelerator cable tube looks like it is not the center of the firewall. Please help! Thanks again!

The guys that do this procedure regularly have a jig to get that suspension point in the exact correct spot. I've only seen one photo of that jig and it was fairly complex. Needing to replace the same suspension console on my '73 2.0L, I came up with a jig that should get you within alignment specs. Scroll down to the bottom of page 5 of this thread...

You would basically take the dimensions from your existing (and hopefully non-damaged) left side suspension and flip that for the right side. Note that the RD part you got is really well made and when you place it right over the drilled out spot welds - you're going to be pretty close. The key is getting large clamps in there to really snug that "ear" up against the long before welding. Use that alinement tool to fine tune the angles and you should be there. After I put everything back together, my cars rear alinement was close to the same side to side. We couldn't get toe-in but that was because I had lowered the rear a lot. If you plan on doing that, there's fixes for that too.
