I thought the 3rd seat was the 'pad'. I think there may have been seat belts but not sure.. I'll have to check my car..

You don't get a footrest... you get a moving seat!

Well, I'm no expert in seats and belts, but after 30 years sitting in the drivers seat, I can say, I've never heard of a 3rd seat and have never seen seat belts for one. I guess you could call the console cushion a seat, but local law enforcement won't. I got stopped in the early 80's for having too many passengers in my car. Same with pickups. Four people in one seat will get ya pulled over. My title even says "two occupants".

On a 1970 there are threaded mount points for a third lap belt on each side of the tunnel near the firewall. I am not sure if they were on the later bodies or not. But I think they are. They may have plugs in them. You must remove the center tray to get to them.

I had a new '70 with the belts for the middle seat. In those days belts were not legally required to be worn and shoulder belts had only been available for a few years. Hard to believe now, but I think I carried my 2-year old daughter in that third seat with the lap belt.

If you want to install a set get a pair of rear belts from an early 70's 911.

you mean for a pseudo-shoulder belt install....otherwise i dont see the point on getting a pair of rear belts if i only use one.

Yep, than narrow pad served as a "supplementary" 3rd seat.

Not really.

Unless your girlfriend has the thinnest, narrowest, boneyest thighs in the world, not even a small child is going to like squatting for any length of time in that narrow spot. Money best spent elsewhere.

By "pair" I meant one "set" which will serve as a lap belt for one person. The person in the middle would have no shoulder belt. The middle passenger shares the passenger footwell. Definitely not a comfortable or safe place to ride, but it can be done.

no 3rd seat for you!

only '70/'71 and some '72 cars have the mounting holes for the additional seat-belts!

PS: on those early cars, the german "fahrzeugbrief" (sort of like a american "title") states "2 seater, +1 emergency seat" ...

ive got the "3rd" seat no seat belts at all in the car and had 3 ppl in the car at one time when got pulled over.

The officer pulled me over after being in a Porsche dealer lot late at night and thought we were doin stuff to the cars in there.

Until he read my registration and saw that it was a Porsche i was driving, haha. Was pretty funny.

My '72 (first 914) had the center cusion with dealer installed lap-belt. Only passengers I ever had that could use it were young ladies age 18-23. As for max occupancy, I drove three friends to a ball-game once. It was a little crowded.
