If you man NF and NC threads, yes they are different. NPT threads are tapered.

you want NPT......
yes, they are different, there is also a british pipe thread... OSH or Craftsman should have the tap you need... you'll need to pick up a 7/16 drill bit...... not sure how thick the casting is, but the "effective" thread length is .40, meaning, you don't want to tap too far in........ |
