I was wondering what the typical oil consumption would be on a healthy engine without oil leaks. Yes, I know about the oil leaks but mine has been abated and doesn't seem to be dripping at this point. It seems mine is using less than a half quart every 1800-2000 miles.....does that seem excessive?

Thank you,

Steve

IIRC Steve, the owner's manual said 800 mi per qt. on the stock motors.

Air-cooled motors - actually air + oil cooled - tend to use a tad more oil than water-cooled, but most car makers back in the 70's also gave them 1000-1200 mi/qt.

So your 1800-2000 mi/qt beats both, & is pretty good, as Mark says.

No worries for your motor! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Agree yours is a good. I see about 800-1,000 per quart on my 2056 and a little less on its original 2.0.
