We started this project literally years ago. The thought process was to go to a neoprene to improve the seal, unfortunately even the softest neoprene was holding the trunk up and not allowing it to sit properly.
Initially we planned to glue the corners as others have done. This is great until you get to the seam at the top of the trunk. It actually has to step down. So we put this on hold until I could re-evaluate it. The only way the upper section can be made correctly is molded corners. So we bit the bullet and made the 2 molds (yes can't be the same one as they are not 90s). Making as a molded and bonded product is the only way to go. Factory had it right to start with. We did however make our corners from a softer material to allow it to close a little easier. You may not even notice but we did want to make the best product we could. Attached thumbnail(s) |

Mark,
How sturdy are the corners? Replacements for these seals often break at the corners, especially after stretching because they are made too short to begin with. Hope yours are better! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Mark,
You know that my car is pretty much 914 Rubber in every possible location. While I have your current seal, this one looks like an improvement so count me in. |

Mark, How sturdy are the corners? Replacements for these seals often break at the corners, especially after stretching because they are made too short to begin with. Hope yours are better! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) The upper corners are actually a single part molded. Then thermally bonded - NOT glued. These are a much better fit than the other cheaper seal on the market. You also have the knowledge it's a genuine 914rubber part! You will not have the variation on these that others have with theirs, ours is exactly the same dims as OEM. |
