that's not Sepia, looks like some sort of metallic brown.

I had contact with the seller several times. It is a respray yes.
it needs some work but is a driver. Work like small oil leak, and some small repairs. Interor needs attention. New heater/exhaust. Engine was not overhauled yet. But a complete driving car. still looking for my first 914...maybe this one...who knows |

LOL, seller is wrong. It could have been Sepia originally but the respray is not correct.

I had a '73 Sepia Brown 914....new. That does not appear to be Sepia Brown. SB was a non-metallic color; that appears to be metallic.

My '73 was originally Sepia Brown (door code L98k), but a prior owner repainted it (apparently with mister bottle?) a really dirty white before I repainted it Ravenna Green. But, in the process of stripping the awful white, I found some original paint in the front trunk and taped it off to show the original color. Here's a shot of original Sepia Brown (L98K) as taped off from the green. Hope it helps.

Regardless if it's Sepia Braun or Metallic Brown, it really does not matter. Auction price surprisingly has not moved much and ends tomorrow. I'm guessing there will be a lot of late bids coming in.

OK...L98K...nice (like the green too ! (better))
what if a 914 came of the factory as paintcode 98, which means custom paint code....can it be any color the customer wanted or did it have to come from the porsche or VW selection ? |

I'm not an expert and don't know the differences between codes 98, L98, and L98k. All 3 seem to be custom, but that's as far as I can go. That may be a good post for either "originality" or "garage" forums? Edit: I also like the Ravenna Green -- really bright colors on 914s make me happy. |

Edit: I also like the Ravenna Green -- really bright colors on 914s make me happy. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Ravenna is one of my favorites. If I eventually get off my butt and buy a 914 and it's a car where originality means nothing, I would at some point do a full repaint in Ravenna. |

In hindsight, I should have bought Rick's 7 of 9 when he sold some months back. That was a really nice car in the right color with known quality by a known-quality builder. But, I was already neck deep in my own project and had a ton of work into my car and [insert excuses here] ..... Edit: and I'm still neck deep in the same project months and months and months later when I could have been driving. Then again, philosophically, is a 914 really a 914 if it hasn't been on jackstands for months and months and months? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) |

I wish I would have especially since he's local, well in the same state anyway. Finding an original Ravenna Green car would be a challenge, though I don't mind challenges. |

I tried to talk a co-worker into buying it. I still think of it from time to time and wish I had bought it. I've only owned one 914. When I went to look at it, it turned out to be Ravenna. I fell in love with it and bought it. It makes me smile just to look at it. Steve |

Ok, for those that were/are interested:
little step closer to solve the color mystery on this car..... Car is/was problably not sepia brown. According to the Porsche COA it was delivered with some options, including option color 99 - Special Wish, which translated to a 98 code on the Karmann Label on the doorpost. Porsche was not able to track down what color it ended up with, but it is a brownish metallic color. |
