I have these shocks on my 73 1.7
They seem "ok" but just want to understand their adjustment.

From my research they are Koni "Reds"

Question 1 ... My car rides high (I think so)
Measuring the "donuts" as what I understand is the preferred method I am at 6 1/2" on the rear and 5 1/2 at the front.
Am I correct that the clip on the spring perch can be moved down to correct rear ride height ? ... then adjust the front torsion bars (yes ,,, then alignment)
I thought they had 5 grooves. Looks like (I am in 2nd from the top / highest.
What height should I be targeting ?

Question 2 ... I have found 3 different instructions on adjusting the compression / rebound . any help with the correct way and info ?

I would drop the rear down to the lowest setting and work my way back up.

The front settings are a completely different story.

And even better because that's what I wanted to hear .. GO LOW

Yes I have some room on the front adjusters but am sure I will need to re-clock them if I go that low on the back.

I think the PO must have had this LOW at some time as the tires were worn badly. so thinking it had been lowered (never aligned) then brought what back up ... story on purchase was "new shocks" the rears are clean and that hopefully is true.

To adjust the koni shock you need to turn the little tab at the top of the shock.
Koni usually supplies a white knob for the adjustment or you can use your favorite adjustable wrench.
The shock spring perch should sit right on the red ring (black arrow) not that silver tube (yellow arrow).
The silver tube looks like an added section from the p/o for whatever reason.

Thanks "Luke" ... I saw your post after removing the shocks and setting the clip at the lowest on that collar.

That dropped the rear just over 1/2 an inch. No collar would only give me maybe 1/4" more.
The stance is "better" . I researched a bit more and there was discussion about drawing a string along the top of the rocker and noting where that line would cross the center of the hub. (goal mentioned was for that string to intersect both front and rear hub centers.

Using that system ... I look to be 1" low on the front & 1" high on the back. to my eye that sounds where I want to go . So I still want to drop the rear 1" (even a bit more and I can balance it using front torsion bar adjustment.

I think that I must have newer stock rear springs and am tempted to go to some 140s for the rear ... How much drop would that actually give me is the question ?

Drop them to the bottom notch.
Set the front end about 3/8 lower by measuring the rocker to the floor.

Then corner balance and get an alignment.

The adjustment on the top of the rear shock is for rebound and will make the shock feel stiffer, but it does not affect ride height.

Hmmmm . if my goal was front 3/8 lower than the rear - I would need to pick up the front ... and that's not the direction I was looking to go.
I would be thrilled to drop the rear 1 more inch . I could do that buy cutting the springs (even if just for a test) or if I knew the 140s would give me that.

Thanks on the adjustment. I will pick a mid spot and adjust those once springs are set.

Your rear shocks have adjustable spring perches.
Lower them to the bottom setting.

Lower photo.

To do this you need to remove the shock, take off the spring and move the c-clip that supports the lower perch down to the lowest setting, then re install it.

Btw, the proper and correct setting is the front is actually about 3/8 in higher than the rear so when you stop quickly the weight shift does not make the rear end slide so quickly.
It has a look many do not like, but it's how it is supposed to be setup.

Thanks again ... that is what I have done today and the photos with the string are after I have done that . So my rear end is still 1" or even a bit more high. That's why I was now thinking 140 springs as then I could use my adjustable rear spring perch to set that ... then adjust the front o the spec you mentioned
