Does it spin if you apply voltage directly to the motor windings?
Does the solenoid kick it out? If the solenoid kicks out does it apply voltage to the starter windings? |

Applying voltage on the bench to the solenoid kicks the armature out. I didn't think to bypass the solenoid and apply voltage directly to the motor windings. Or to see if I have no current past the solenoid. So If motor runs when directly connected, then the Solenoid to motor connection is bad. I will try that next. Thanks !!! |

I have a starter you can use for testing, not sure where it is exactly (which box/tub in the shed).
Where in Sac are you? I work in Elk Grove & live in Carmichael. There used to be a starter/alternator shop down by Sac City college, not sure if they are still there. Jim |

You can find them for many starters, but I failed to find one for the Bosch starter. |

Another 914 member in Loomis I think has offered the same thing. I live in West Roseville near HP. Let me see what he says. I have Tuesday off so if your schedule is good maybe we can meet up. Does it spin if you apply voltage directly to the motor windings? Does the solenoid kick it out? If the solenoid kicks out does it apply voltage to the starter windings? Power to the selenoid kicks out the armature, but doesn't spin the motor Power to directly to the motor spins the motor, but no armature movement... So does that mean the selenoid transfer plate is bad ? The selenoid shouldn't get hot should it ? |
