So as usual I picked up a parts car yesterday. A 74 roller with some good bits left on it. same owner since 93. Hasn't done anything except pull the 2.0 engine & trans and interior bits for his other 914 project. Has sat outside for years in a storage place with no rear window. Needless to say it is toast.
But........ there is always a but...... when the owner sent me pictures the front spoiler looked different then most aftermarket "LE" spoilers I have seen. When I seen it in person I knew it was a LE spoiler and confirmed it today. The car itself is NOT a LE (vin 4742903458). While it is true back in the day you could order a LE spoiler for your non 74 LE car and I believe that is what happen here. The guy I bought the car from said it has always been on the car since he has owned it. In all my years of buying, flipping and parting 914s this is only the 2nd time I have come across a real LE spoiler on a non LE car. Here are some pictures of a aftermarket LE type spoiler vs true LE spoiler. The aftermarket is in the top of pictures. If you held them in your hand you would know for sure which one is the real one. The LE on has two circles on the ends from the factory mold, two holes on the bottom for the factory mounting brackets the help hold it in the center and lastly the part number 914.503.235.10 Pretty cool I think. Cool Garrold. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
If it will be put back into circulation can you be sure it goes to a deserving LE owner? So many do not have the real spoilers. Brother Ferg comes to mind. |

Interesting. Are the dimensions of the aftermarket spoiler the same as the OEM spoiler? The camera angles in the comparison photos make them look a bit different. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) The one I have is different. It seems a little longer and doesn't curve like the OEM one. It is also very flimsy compared to the OEM spoiler. |

Original spoilers are too easy to spot. Reinforced corners, white gel coast and a good old parts number.
