I'm looking at the electrical wiring diagram in the Haynes Manual, and there's no mention of any connection to a radio:
1. Always hot
2. Ignition on
3. Ground
Am I missing something, or is this strictly a DIY situation? I would have thought the factory would have provided pigtails integrated into the wiring.

DIY. No pigtails included. There are unused tabs on the fuse panel for at least one if not both of the hot leads, and ground is any brown wire or a ground tab that you add.

Try the cigar lighter. Some of the radios got there power there.

Not at all!
The 914 I bought has a "shade-tree" wiring setup for the radio (among other things), and in my work to re-organize and clean up this wiring mess, my question was whether or not the factory had radio wiring done during manufacture. If I had known the answer I'd never have asked the question!
Were 914's sold without radios? Or if they were made with radios, were those wired in on the factory assembly line on a DIY basis.

Like I said, a mess of wires in need of simplification/reorganization.
