I have been tearing my hair out trying to get my 914 running. I've been swapping jets in the carbs, (45 Dellortos) and playing around with them for over a week now with no progress. This morning I decided to recheck my timing.....But I knew it was ok.....Wrong! When I set it the first time after installing the engine I must have forgot to disconnect the vacuum hose! It was way retarded. I set it at 28* and wow what an improvement, but still a rough idle.
Took it to the local expert ( I don't have a syncro tool) and he got the carbs right. It now idles smooth, and I have lots of snap when I step on it! I feel so dumb!
