Just had to buy a replacement for my ball joint lock pin ('74 car) due to failure while torquing it. Can someone verify 33 ft/lbs is correct. Seems really high for an 8mm fastener.

Correct 45 Nm or 33.1 Ft-Lbs, best to tap in place first, then tighten.

In the 911 manual, those are labeled "wedge pin (always replace)". Everywhere they are referred to, there's that notation.

I'm thinking maybe we shouldn't be reusing them...

Interesting. They could be single use/torque to yield. I’d happily replace them if they weren’t so overpriced!
