Tomorrow I need to take off my rockers to get them reshot at the local auto body shop since the 0 degree weather we had in January (even in my garage) caused the paint to peel. And I want to see what is behind them and clean there. A couple of questions:
1. Drilling out the rivets, what diameter drill bit do I use?
2. Any other issues with removal of the rockers?
3. I remember reading here that the original paint for the rockers is a mix of 30 flat and 70 gloss black, is this correct?
4. What are the length of the rivets for reinstallation?
5. Any idea where i can find black rivets? Sears only sells gray aluminum ones.

Those rivets along the top are actually plastic rivets. I'm not sure if those are still available or not, but I think you can get away with some trim screws that have a flatter head to substitute them with.

I've never really tried to salvage them. The way they install is you stick them in the hole and then there's a center piece that's pushed in the middle to spread the bottom to sinch the rivet in place. I've seen NOS one's on ebay from time to time.

I'm not sure of the length of the rivets. Everytime I drill them out, they fall into the long.
You could also try mcmaster-carr for therivets.

I would use the screw type tuflok because cleaning and inspecting under the rocker panel area should be done at least yearly to make sure it stays clean from leaves and dirt.

Rockers off, absolutely no damage or rust. Rockers head off to body shop to get shot tomorrow. What is the stock black paint? It's not flat nor gloss. Will post pix tomorrow. More rust where the plastic threshold pieces are, and man do I need a new brown carpet. Rgds, Michael

Anybody know the factory stock paint for the rockers. I thought I saw a past post that it was a blend of flat and gloss, but I can't find the post and I don't want to remove or pay for the repainting of the front and rear valances. TIA. Michael

I think you can get a close match with wurth paint. From what mine looks like it's more of a satin finish.

You can get the rivets through Porsche. They are clear plastic now. The white and black are NLA. They are inexpensive. To take the old rivets out, simply use a tiny punch or a nail and tap out the center. Then you can pull them out.
