Stupid question, can you safely steam clean an engine (while in the car of course). I am worried about damaging paint, injectors etc.. what do you think?

That is a one way flapper - it only opens when air is being drawn in. The same thing is used on Oil bath filters from early beetles 1200 & 1300cc engines I believe.

steam is fine, the heavy pressure washer is not so fine, steam will do a good job without a lot of pressure, just cover the intake and distributor injectors will not be hurt

mostly stock, I also have a newly repowder coated stock 2.0 air box coming from bruce stone, all new vac lines from George and AA(stock) so this will really look nice when done.
