I'm installing a PO's rebuild and can't figure out if there are warm air shrouds on the bottom of the engine, particularly covering the thermostat. Seems that the thermostat shouldn't be just sitting there in free air but I can't find any good photos of what the shrouding on the bottom side of the cylinders and around the thermostat should look like, or if there is even any there.

The thermostat is sitting in free air. I don't know af any good pictures for the cooling tin. You'll have to play the puzzle game for know but should be able to figure it out with patience. Maybe someone will chime in with some pictures shortly.

I think you are referring to part 11 in Paul Heery's diagram. I believe they are also called "warm air guides" Part 11 is the driver's side and part 12 is the passenger's. It's not clear from this diagram put the driver's side changed in '73 due to the side shifter linkage. They';re not interchangeable. I found this out when I did a sideshifter conversion. |

Thanks for the info and especially the photos. The thermostat bracket has another small bracket with a threaded hole in it which clued me that there was a guide that mounts using that threaded hole.

the sheet metal under teh thermostat bellows also helps prevent road debries from puncturing the bellows. Good to have in place.
