The factory manual and PET show an overflow tube from the brake reservoir. None of my 914s had them so I've never seen one. Did they really exist? If so, how were they attached? I see the vent on my reservoir but no place to attach a tube. I can't see anyplace that looks like something broke off either. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

I think the early cars had the overflow tube and the later cars just have a vent. I’m not at home right now or I would check.

I believe only the early cars (end of '72) had overflow tubes.

I believe it was also used on the early 911's and is the more desirable units.
Here is my before and after on my build thread http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?s=&...t&p=2522980

Can someone provide a source for suitable clear tubing ?
My resevoir has the nipple and the clips to hold it but....the tubing that
I find is too fat for the clips.
Anyone ?

Rory,
Try some fuel line for model airplane engines or gas powered yard tools.

Thanks guys. Good to know and at least not an item I need to worry about for my car. Nest question, is the hole and clip above and below the brake switch wire grommet in the pic below for the overflow tube that I don't have? Can't think what else those would be for. If so, I think I'll find a rubber plug for that hole.

Thanks again.

My '72 has a vent tube, too.

BTW, you'll need the tube in order to block off the vent if you ever want to pressure bleed. Yep, found that out the hard way..

Yes, the hole is for the overflow tube and the tab below is to secure the tube.
It should extend past the gravel shield.
PS beautiful work. Let us see the rest of the car.

OOPS !...just found your 47 page thread. Beautiful.

Thanks Rory. I'm doing my best to keep up with you. I guess since I have the later reservoir without overflow tube, I'll just find a rubber plug to fit that hole.

Yes me too! I used a pressure bleed system recently without realising and had a pint of brake fluid shoot down to the garage floor in five seconds!

Follow up on this thread.
Be sure to use the correct cap with your resevoir.
Early res. with nipple ? use cap w/rounded shoulders and no vent hole in center.
Be sure to have proper drain tube !
Late res. without nipple ? Square shoulder cap w/vent hole in center.

To source that tube you can go to the local pet store and buy the clear tubing for the aquarium pumps.

It worked great and cheap too. I read about it from another member.
