I'm looking for a nice turn signal switch for a '73 914. I also need a set of screws for mounting the switch in the steering column. Please let me know what you have.

Thanks!

Get you a new Meyle for $20 at Autohausaz.com. You have to look up 73 VW Beetle. Have to look, may have the screws you need.

I looked on autohausaz, but no luck. Couldn't find any turn signal switches for a '73 beetle (or 914, either).

Besides, I thought I read on here that currently-available new turn signal switches are junk that don't last.

Still looking for a nice turn signal switch and screws to mount it in the column.

I have had a lot of issues with the Meyle switches, went through three of them in a year on a car that is only occasionally driven. Got a switch from my local vintage VW shop that both worked and has held up a lot better so far. packaging was whitebox though so i dont know the manufacture on it.

On pretty much every aftermarket switch i have tried so far the plastic housing on the electrical connector is slightly to large and will bind trying to insert it in the steering column (and bind even worse trying to remove it if you force it in) If this is the case on your car just take some time and sand down the plastic until it inserts without effort. Other issues I have seen with the switches have to do with the electrical pins themselves being either two large (works but will stretch the pins on the harness side) or too small (dont make a constant connection). One of them the lever that activates the high beam broke internally on the 3rd use, the one after that the entire turn signal level broke internally and the lever went limp after about 2 months. The lever the cancels the turn signal stuck on pretty much all of them as well.

Basically the tolerances on all them are complete crap though some manufactures are better than others.

Well, I ended up ordering a new Meyle unit from FCP Euro. I guess we'll find out just how good their "lifetime warranty" really is. I'll report back on how it goes.

In the mean time, still looking for a set of screws for mounting the switch (and the wiper switch).

And, would still like to buy a good used turn signal switch, if someone has a nice one.
