I'm replacing my front shocks while leaving the struts in the car. Pulling the old shock revealed the rubber spring with one segment cut off which foreshadowed my issue. Upon installation, how does one get the shock top past the opening in the front trunk above? I'm jacking from the balljoint below to compress the suspension, but it just raises the whole car and doesn't get the top clear. For something so simple, this is stupidly annoying.

Thanks!

Edit: threaded a bolt into the top and pulled the shock up...

Another trick is to use old hood pull cable threaded into shock top.
