I guess dealing with 50 yr old parts ... shit just happens. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
The bushing gave up to ghost and disintegrated ,lucky for me I had a spare shift rod. I am just wondering what the solution is. Has anyone had luck re-bushing the shift rod

...and I'd recommend a new firewall bearing:

It is part of the shift rod that is just behind the knuckle at the firewall... giving the knuckle the ability to rotate slightly up and down.

I have installed the Tangerine bearing, It works great! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)
The pelican kit does not include the bushing on the shift rod though.

I just stuck with the factory plastic bushing. Let is soak in very hot water for a while and it squishes in much easier.

Gotta pull the shift rod from the tranny side, pull the shifter out and slid the shifting rod out of the tunnel to make room to install the new bushing.

The ones I linked should be the right ones. Getting the pin out can be difficult if it rusted.

You sure? Isn't that them in the bottom left of the photo?

Do the whole thing while you have it apart. Firewall, shift knuckle, bushings on the transaxle. Make it right.

If you really want to do it well, buy Tangerine's full shift rod kit plus firewall bushing. It's a bit of coin, but worth every penny. I did it on both mine and love it.

The bushings 914e posted are correct and they are part of the pelican kit.

i went thru this last year, biggest issue was getting that pin out it has splines on it that help keep it in place once pressed in , so you need a press. once that is pressed out,
clean it up and get the new brass bushings, much less play than the derlin ones, perfect fit, tight and smooth, also did the firewall bushing from RIX914parts. com,
or use stock Porsche or 914rubber, then get the brass one fro the console at thetransmission, and if you really want smooth shifting, get the whole Tangerine racing shift rod and rear console bushing. i think they use a different knuckle at the firewall similar to the steering u-joint.

so several options on this.
Good luck, -
ps. got the brass bushings from a seller on E-bay

One of my favorite bushing installation photos. I guess they couldn't get the pin out. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

Original Customs - Mark - made a YouTube video on this years ago.

Check YT for 914 Shift Coupler Repair.
You can do it.

Uhh, hmmm...I guess that'll work...?

I used a bench vice and sockets to press in and out.
