A/X was fantastic...It's the ride home to Napa. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif)

Traffic was horrible and I was tired.
We're sloooowly motoring over hiway 17 ( super steep and windy, twisty ) and this guy pulls up along side pointing to the trailer.

I can talk to him out the window and he says there is a lot of noise coming off the trailer. Wheel bearings he says.

Not smoking, but I can see the wheel flopping in the fenderwell.

I repacked all the bearings and adjusted them before the long haul to WCC.

I pulled over and jacked up the trailer. Left rear bearing ( doulble axle trailer ) was wasted. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif)

I was looking for a place to leave the trailer so I could drive the car home and have my wife follow me in the truck.

Some nieghbors on Bill's street in San Jose let me leave it.

I'm going to go deal with it now. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif)

I made it back...On three wheels (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif)

I stopped at a place in San Leandro and the guy looked at the hub from the the trailer.

First he just stared at it. Then he started shaking his head. Next he starts laughing. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif)

Then he's like: " Hey, Moe! Come look at this!"

The next guy comes out and he laughs.

Turns out with the 40 years of trailer suspension experience between them, they have never seen anything like it. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif)

The old hubs are "bolt on", so I'll hunt for something up to date.

I have 3 weeks.

As it turns out, the axles have obsolete spindles and actual ball bearings.
I have two new 3500# capacity drop axles with hubs in my yard.

Today I need to assemble them and install before the a/x tomorrow.

New car trailers are around $2500, so the $400 for the parts was easy.

Done!

about four hours to weld on the spring center tabs, install axles with u-bolts, pack bearings, install hubs and wheels back on.

Time for a test tow and load the car.

Even had time for a barley... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beer3.gif)
